Mariners Manager : Eric Wedge

Eric Wedge is in his first year as manager of the Seattle Mariners. He was the Cleveland Indians manager from 2003 until 2009. He led the Indians to a division championship in 2007 and was voted AL Manager of the year.

As a player, Wedge played sparingly for the Red Sox from 1991-1992 then was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the expansion draft. He was a late season call up for the Rockies in 1993. Andres Galarraga was having an All Star season for the Rockies during their inaugural year.

Galarraga also represented the Montreal Expos in the 1988 All Star game. '88 was the final year for teammate and 6 time All Star Graig Nettles.

Nettles had his best season playing for the 1977 World Series Champion New York Yankees. Despite putting up career high numbers during the regular season, Nettles hit an anemic .171 in the post season. Fortunately his teammate was Mr. October, Reggie Jackson.

Reggie led the AL with 39 Homers in 1975 while an aging Billy Williams still showed that sweet swing with 22 home runs as DH for the 1975 Oakland A's.

In 1964 Billy Williams and Ron Santo represented the Chicago Cubs in the All Star game.

Two Sport Players : Hoop Dreams

On June 7, 1977 Danny Ainge was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays. In 1981 he was drafted by the Boston Celtics. One of his teammates on the 1981 Blue Jays was Mike Barlow who played Basketball at Syracuse.

Barlow played for the California Angels in 1980 along with Rick Miller who played college basketball at Michigan State.

Rick Miller roamed the outfied behind Fergie Jenkins in 1977 for the Boston Red Sox.

Jenkins played basketball for the Harlem Globetrotters, but is best known as a Hall of fame pitcher for the Cubs and Ron Santo's 1973 teammate.

Harmon Killebrew - June 29, 1936 – May 17, 2011

In honor of Harmon (Killer) Killebrew's passing, I am posting a tribute to the Hall of Famer. This time every player leading up to Ron Santo is a fellow Hall of Famer. (Some may argue that Santo should be included in the Hall of Fame but I will leave that argument up the the many other blogs on that subject.)

Harmon played with Whitey Herzog on the 1958 Washington Senators.

Herzog played for the 1962 Baltimore Orioles with another future Hall of Fame Manager, Dick Williams.

Williams managed the pennant winning 1967 Boston Red Sox and Triple Crown winner Carl Yastrezemski.

Yaz was teamed up with Fergie Jenkins on the 1977 Boston Red Sox.

Fergie was Ron Santo's teammate many including the 1968 Chicago Cubs. Santo and Jenkin's numbers have both been retired by the Cubbies.

From the late great Harmon Killebrew to the late great Ron Santo in 5 degrees.
